Springfield News Leader---Thursday Evening, April 25, 1940
John H. Seaton 80, Day, Mo., died at 4:30 o'clock this morning in a Springfield hospital following a short illness. He is survived by five sons, Ralph and Lonnie, both of Reeds Spring; Troy, Hutchinson, Kan., Royce, (sp) Sperry, Okla., and Walter, Lyons, Kan., and one daughter. Mrs. Bertie Chase, Reeds Spring. The body will lie in state until noon tomorrow at the Herman Lohmeyer chapel and then will be taken to the Seaton cemetery near Day for funeral services and burial a 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.

This week marks the passing of another of our old time residents. Johm Seaton has long lived in the country and through the years of his life had in his quiet way won the respect of all who came in contact with him. To his sons and daughter he left a legacy that is priceless honor, justice, and adherence to the path of duty. In him were found the qualities that have made America.
Mr. Seaton came to Taney County in 1876 and until his marriage lived with his parents. After marrying he settled on his farm on Bear Creek, near Walnut Shade, where he has lived since that time.
He had been ill for some time, since he had suffered a stroke and had never completely recovered from its effects. Mr. Seaton is well known to nearly everyone in Taney County and his absence will be a great loss.
John H. C. Seaton was born in Indiana on January 22, 1860 and departed this life April 25, 1940 at 4:30 A.M. at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, Three months and three days. He came to Taney County with his parents at the age of sixteen and was united in marriage to Martha Jane Caton on March 11, 1886, who preceded him in death on September 6, 1926. To this union was born six children. Five sons and one daughter. All of whom survive him. They are : Mrs. Ben Chase, of Day, Missouri, Ralph Seaton, of Walnut Shade, Missouri, Troy B. Seaton, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Royce E. Seaton, of Sperry, Oklahoma, Lonnie V. Seaton of Reeds Spring, Missouri and Walter H. Seaton, of Lyons Kansas. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
