Our precious mother, Doris Clark Rush, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7, 2020. Funeral services will be held at the Rush Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020 with Reverend Greg Willis officiating. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Doris was born September 14, 1931 in Oakdale, La to the union of Thomas and Effie Ray Clark. She loved sports, lettered in basketball, won a State Championship and proudly graduated from Pine Prairie High School.

She met the love of her life, Howard Jerald Rush, Sr., at the local café while pedaling mattress through Oakdale and they were married on March 4, 1950. Our mother devoted her life to her husband and children making sure their endeavors were always successful. She never wanted to be the center of attention, but humbly contributed so much behind the scenes and always cheered the loudest when her children and grandchildren were involved.

Family was everything to her. Fondly known as “Mamaw,” she made each member feel treasured. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and everyone looked forward to “Mamaw’s sweet cards with dollars in them!” Even as her health diminished, she still hand wrote cards with love.

A loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, Doris was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. Being a woman of strong faith in God, she could feed the masses with five loaves and two fish, which she often did. No matter who stopped by, there was always enough to go around and no one went away hungry.

Our mother was a woman of great faith and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her soul and lived her life as written in Proverbs 31. She was always faithful to love others, be good to others and pray fervently. She is loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Howard Jerald Rush, Sr., her parents, three brothers, T. G. Clark, Vernon Clark and Sammie Clark; one sister, Geneva Clark Marshall and one great grandson, Chapman Michael Petty.

She is survived by her children, Howard “Jerald” Rush, II, Kenneth Ray Rush, and wife, Sharon, Kathryn Rush Smith and Kelly Rush Savoy, and husband, Dr. Patrick Savoy; nine grandchildren, Howard Jerald “Jay” Rush, III, Joni Rush Oates, Dr. Laura Rush Petty, Daniel Ray Rush, Dr. David Alan Rush, Jessica Smith Hymel, Rush Alan Williams, John Ross Williams and Peyton Cole Savoy; seven great grandchildren, Richard Joseph “Rich” Oates, Jr., Davis Walker Oates, Westin Lewis Oates, Noah Jessie Kramer, Caroline Lee Petty, Christine Grace Petty and William Ray Rush.

Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers will be Howard “Jay” Rush, III, Daniel Rush, Dr. David Rush, Rush Williams, John Ross Williams and Richard “Rich” Oates.

The Rush Family would like to express their sincere appreciation to those who contributed to her well-being for the past few years, Paula Swinnea McGee, Jennifer Swinnea, Saralisbeth Swinnea, MaKayla Swinnea, Bailee Willis, Abbie Johnson, Kadyn Malone and Kyrah Thompson, and made her final years ones of comfort and care.
