A graveside service will be held Sunday November 8th 2020 at 2:00pm at Mt Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. 2676 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC 28043 with the Dr. Bobby Gant officiating.
Earleen graduated from Rutherford-Spindale High School, moved to Charlotte to work at Southern Bell Telephone co. and started as a long distant operator in 1954. Later she transferred to many different jobs. Her favorite was dispatcher where she helped installers and repairmen. She retired in 1993 with 39 years of service.
She was married to Thomas Douglas for 24 years before his death. Earleen moved back to Forest City where she joined Florence Baptist and the Joy Sunday School Class. She loved to travel, and her favorite trip was to Hawaii. She loved reading, Tar Heel Basketball, and watching preaching on TV when she was unable to attend church. She also loved going to gospel music concerts. She always had a camera in her hand, made pictures for every occasion and trips. She had a large doll collection; her favorite was Shirley Temple and Elvis.
Earleen is preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents Earl and Thelma Bland of Spindale and her Nephews Ricky Bland and John Fox. Brother-in-law JD Melton, and Sister-in-law Geneva Bishop Bland.
Survivors include stepchildren Libby Leister, Gail Donaho, Christi Parker, and Eddie Douglas; brothers Raymond and Kenneth Bland (Kathy); Sisters Ruby Melton and Nancy Fox; Nephews David Melton, Greg Fox and Clint Bland (Amy); Nieces Judith Fox Jones, Rhonda Wyatt, and Denise Worley.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Florence Baptist Church 2018 Broadway St. Forest City, NC 28043.
