OBITUARY. DELOS ABRAMS. Death came to Delos Abrams at his home in Lancaster, Dec. 18, after a short illness of heart trouble, at the age of 81 years and five months. Although his condition had been regarded as quite serious for some time it was not supposed that the time for his, last leaving would be soon. About Thanksgiving day, Mr. Abrams had a large supply of wood cut from his farm, and was outdoors superintending the cutting and the piling of the winter's supply. Despite his age, he was a vigorous man, and helped the men around the yard. Shortly after, his heart started troubling him and he took to bed, hoping that a complete rest would soon store him to his usual health. His age; however, counted against him, and after a week had elapsed, his condition showed little improvement. He grew very weak on Sunday. Although there was nothing alarming in his condition, Monday night a peaceful end came.
Delos Abrams was born in Montgomery County, New York, 1834, the son of Anthony and Cynthia Abrams, and received a common school education. His aged mother died in 1855 and his father in 1871. He was one of nine children. One brother Andrew Abrams died in Africa as a missionary; he was also a brother to the noted Dr. Charles Abrams of Fayetteville, Wis.
In 1855 he married Miss Martha M. Harvey, daughter of James Harvey, and four children came to brighten the home, Mary A. the oldest married Chas J Alexander and now lives at Mt. Hope. Susie K. married Daniel Needham and now resides in Lewiston, Idaho. Elizabeth B. was married to Albert Hagen and lives in Alberta, Canada. Harvey, the youngest and only son, resides in this city.
About twenty-eight, years ago his first wife died and three years later he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Desire Lee.
In politics Mr. Abrams was always a strong Republican. For eleven years, he was clerk of the school .board. ; He also held positions as justice of the peace and assessor. For two terms he held the honor of chairman of the town board of Little Grant and in 1876 he was elected representative to the state legislature with a majority of 206, the largest up to that time ever given in this district.
Two weeks ago, the editor of the Teller had a pleasant morning chat with Mr. Abrams as he was looking for- at some ruts which a team had cut across his lawn; Ever careful of details,, he had the lawn covered with leaves to prevent the wagon ruts from working more deeply into the sod.
I have a little treat for you down there, he said, pointing to the collar. Just a moment and I'll bring it up.
He returned carrying some large red apples which he exhibited with pride.
"Here are some Idaho apples that Mr. Needham sent us. They are good apples, but the fact that they came from some of the folks makes them taste better to me.
It was a remark characteristic of Mr. Abrams. He was proud of his children, and they held the first place in his heart. Lancaster Teller,
