Dorothy I. Schwartz, ago 91, of Gresham passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020. Dorothy was born on June 20, 1929 in Tigerton, daughter of the late Ludwig and Clara (Malueg) Diem. Dorothy was united in marriage to Ben Schwartz on June 4, 1949. Ben preceded her in death in November 2004. After marriage Ben and Dorothy farmed with Ben’s parents in the Town of Herman. There Dorothy spent her lifetime making the large multi-generational farmhouse a home. In addition to milking cows, Dorothy also held a number of outside jobs, each for many years. Those included Kucksdorf Construction in Leopolis, Texlon Sewing Factory in Gresham, Stiers Hardward in Gresham and Muehl’s Furniture in Shawano. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed gardening. She’d be outside for hours, early in the morning before the heat of the sun, weeding her vegetable garden and flower beds. She loved reading romance novels and given the time, would read several books a week. Before losing Ben, they very regularly got together with their neighborhood friends to play cards. Dorothy was a member of Elias Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member and officer of the Ladies Aide for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Donald (Charlotte) Schwartz of Gresham; grandchildren, Charles Schwartz of Wausau and Stacy Schwartz of Madison; great-grandchild, Tenley Schwartz of Madison; sister, Carol Lehman of Tigerton; brother Robert (Maribeth) Diem of Appleton; a dear cousin Rita Hohn of Tigerton; nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Clarence, Harvey, David and Edward; sister, Eileen; and siblings, Leslie, Lester, Martin, Edna and Marcella in infancy.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Monday, November 9th at Elias Lutheran Church, Town of Herman with Pastor Lois Graper officiating. Burial will be in the Elias Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a drive-thru visitation at the graveside from 10:00 to 11:00. A private family graveside service will follow. The family asks that masks be worn and social distancing be observed.
