Bobby Louis George
February 21, 1933 - November 5, 2020

Bobby George of Social Circle (formerly of Scottdale, GA) went to be with the Lord on November 5th, 2020. Born February 21st, 1933, Bobby was the youngest child of William Morris George and Lemmer Frances Ferguson. Bobby’s early years were spent on the farm picking cotton and strawberries and working with farm equipment. His farm life was interrupted by his call to duty in the U.S. Army where he served from 1953 to 1955. Bobby completed basic training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and advanced training at Camp Carson, Colorado. During his stay at Camp Carson, he met his future bride, Violet Marie Hart of Erie, PA. The newlyweds soon returned to his boyhood hometown of Scottdale, GA. Bobby and Violet went on to have five children including one baby girl who was stillborn. Carolyn Joyce, Bobby Deforest, Penny May, and Lynn Marie were raised by Bobby and Violet. Bobby worked as an equipment and facility maintenance person at Scottdale Mills for 25 years. He went on to work with Georgia Duck until he retired at the age of 68. Despite his demanding job, Bobby made time for his children. He would play baseball with his kids, take long walks with his family, and cook Sunday morning breakfast for everyone. A Bobby had a gift for repairing cars. He often would invite his children and grandchildren to hand him the necessary tools. In their later years, Bobby and Violet attended and gave their lives to the Lord at North Clarendon Baptist Church where they faithfully attended services for about twenty years. After retirement, Bobby and Violet moved to Social Circle, GA to be closer to their children. Bobby spent time at home planting gardens and working outside. Violet, his bride of 52 years, went to her heavenly home in 2007. Now, Bobby and Violet are walking hand in hand once more. Bobby is preceded in death by his wife, Violet, Carolyn Joyce George (daughter), Baby Girl (stillborn daughter), his parents, and his three brothers. Bobby (and Violet) are survived by three children: Bobby Deforest George, Penny May George, and Lynn Marie Smith. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Kayla Latour, Kyle Clanton, April George, Michael Bush, Alicia Howard, and seven great-grandchildren, sister-n-law Betty Fay and numerous nieces and nephews.
