Conrad Murphree Fowler, Jr. peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on November 2, 2020.

Conrad was born November 21, 1946 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and raised in Columbiana, Alabama. He attended Shelby County High School and was recruited to play football at the University of Alabama under Coach Paul Bryant where he lettered each year.

He excelled in the College of Business and was recognized at the University as a leader receiving the Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award his senior year. He was the first athlete to receive this award. He was president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, O.D.K., Jasons, and A Club. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1969, he continued his studies at the University of Alabama Law School and he was president of his freshman class.

In wanting to give back to his community, Conrad created a scholarship for a graduate of Shelby County High School to attend the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama. After graduation, Conrad returned to his hometown, Columbiana with his wife, the former Rachel Brown of Birmingham.

Conrad had an active general practice of law with Wallace, Ellis, Fowler & Head for over forty years. Within his profession he was elected Commissioner of the Alabama Bar Association for three terms, President of the Shelby County Bar Association, and was a member of the American Bar Association. In the community, he was president of the Kiwanis Club and chair of many civic organizations. He was a strong supporter and assumed leadership roles of all three public schools where his two daughters attended.

He served as Columbiana's city Judge and later as the city's attorney. Conrad was president of the University of Alabama's Shelby County Alumni Association. He served on the University of Alabama's committee for selection of the new Athletic Director. Conrad was an active member of Columbiana United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and chairman of Finances. In Birmingham, he was a member of the Crawford Owen Bible Study at Canterbury United Methodist Church. Integrity, character, high standards describe Conrad. He always saw the best potential in others and helped them achieve their goals. This was done quietly and generously.

He remained loyal to his teammates with the A Club, SAE fraternity brothers, SCHS school classmates, law associates, and to each friend. Always there for others, he saw each one as an equal. He had a great sense of humor and everyone that knew Conrad had a story to tell.

Rachel's loving dedication and creative modifications throughout his battle of Parkinson's Disease is a testament to their enduring love story of 50 years. His joy was his family. Each year the ten would take several family trips together. Always attending their sporting events, football, lacrosse, soccer, basketball, volleyball as well as plays, concerts, and other school events, he was proud of each one with their individual talents.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel; two daughters: Catherine Carnes (Dr. Matthew), Mobile, AL, Elizabeth Smith (Boynton) Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Graham Carnes, William Carnes, Adair Smith, and Amelia Smith; brother: Randolph Fowler (Heather) Tuscaloosa, AL.

He is predeceased by his parents Virginia Evelyn Mott Fowler (1920-2008) and Conrad Fowler, Sr.(1918-2007).

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 9 at Canterbury United Methodist Church officiated by Keith Thompson and streamed online at www.canterburyumc.org/funerallivestream There will be a drive-by visitation prior to the service at Canterbury from 11:30-12:30.
