In Flagstaff, Arizona, November 2, 1986. Joan Ellen Higdon Cummings was born in Stockton, California on August 2, 1944. She died in a plane crash in Flagstaff, Arizona on November 2, 1986. She was the wife of the late Robert Lee Cummings. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Cummings; her parents, Thelma and Dale Higdon of Tustin, CA; her brother, Roger Higdon of Fremont, CA; grandfather Walter J. Gilgert of Stockton; niece Robyn Higdon of San Francisco; nephew, Keving HIgdon of Dallas, TX; and many other relatives in Stockton. Joan Cummings was of a pioneer San Joaquin County family having been fourth generation to be born here. She attended Jefferson School, Lincoln Elementary and Lincoln High School, and graduated from San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton. She was married to Robert Cummings in Central Methodist Church in 1964. In 1976 she moved to Arizona with her family, first living in Kayenta and then moving to Flagstaff in 1979. She was a talented artist in needlework. A member of the Flagstaff Assistance League, Joan was instrumental in starting the League's "Cedar Closet" selling donated clothing, etc. to benefit the good works of the Assistance League. She volunteered her time at the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce.
