Henry was the son of Henry Helmershausen and Anna Marsh. He married Jane Mary Hilton September 3, 1815 in Bristol, Lincoln, Maine. They were the parents of William, Harrison, Harriet, Mary, Charles, Sophia, Sylvanus, Faustina, Catherine, Norman and Eliza (who died in Maine).
OBITUARY - Henry Charles Frederick Helmershausen (he was called Charles) was born in the town of Bremen in the State of Maine, August 12, 1779, and died in his eightieth year early in the morning on March 20, 1869 in Franklin Grove, Illinois. His parents were Henry Helmershausen and Anna Marsh. Mr. Helmershausen came to Illinois in 1840, and for nearly thirty years he had been a resident of Franklin Grove. At the age of 23 he served a short time in the war in defense of his native state Maine (War of 1812). During the greater part of his life, however, he was a decided anti-war man, firmly believing that war was opposed to the spirit and teachings of Christianity.
Henry loved the bible, the word of God and read it much; for it was his guide to all moral and religious truth. When asked how he felt in regard to his approaching dissolution, his reply was "like one going home. I am going to my Heavenly Father."
