aka: maiden: Leaky; married: Cumpton

Dau of Joel C. Jefferson Leakey (1812/TN–1896) and Elizabeth M. Stapp (1813/KY–1870) who married 1836 in Howard Co. MO.
(ALERT: family trees consistently show her parents to be Benjamin Philbert and Anna Woods, who also had a daughter named Sarah Ann, born 1837 in Missouri. However the death certs of Sarah's children, John, Benjamin and Martha, all show mother's maiden name to be Sarah Leaky.)

1850 Cass Co., MO: LEAKY Sarah/13 in home of parents Joel C.J./37, Elizabeth M /38, and siblings Martha J/9, Mary M/5, Joshua B/3 and Amanda M/1. By 1860, Sarah has married, and her parents and siblings are living in Mingo, Bates Co., MO as LEAK, and in 1870 as LOKEY.

She married James L. Compton in 1856, and to this union nine children were born. When Mr. Compton died in 1904, five of the children had already died - see his obit for the four survivors on his memorial. 1880 census, Mingo, Bates, MO lists childen as John P, age 21; Izora J., age 18; Martha L., age 15; Mary E., age 12; Sylvanus R., age 10; Benjamin F., age 8; and Dovey L., age 4.

Research: per family trees, this is the family Sarah belonged to in 1850:
1850 Fishing River, Clay MO: PHILBERT Sarah/13 is with parents Berry and Ann and siblings Manda/19, Charles/17, Malinda/14, Marion/11, George W/9. Also in home was CUNNINGHAM Moses/29.
This does not appear to be correct family for Mrs. Sarah Ann Compton.

Marker not found. There are many unmarked graves, and markers buried in sod in this cemetery.
