Actor. Perhaps best known to international audiences for his role as Admiral Roebuck in the 1997 007 film, Tomorrow Never Dies, he was born in London, England. Noted appearances within his career began in the 1970's with roles in the sitcoms, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, and Butterflies in which he played the lead role of Ben Parkinson. Beginning in 1992, he starred opposite of Dame Judi Dench in the long- running television series, As Time Goes By. This collaboration carried over into several film appearances throughout the decade including the aforementioned Tomorrow Never Dies and Mrs Brown, in which Palmer played the role of Queen Victoria's chief secretary, Sir Henry Ponsonby. During the latter part of his career, he provided voice over and narration work on a variety of commercials, audiobooks, and BBC programs. In recognition of his services to drama, Queen Elizabeth II appointed Mr. Palmer a member of the Order of the British Empire.
