Following her years as a devoted home maker, wife and mother, Ms. Bowers worked for the Virginian Pilot Joy Fund and later opened her home as a bed and breakfast for three years. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where she arranged altar flowers for over forty five years. Among her other activities were Meals On Wheels and church circles. Her great passion was for all things green and growing and her love of nature was reflected in her grounds work at First Lutheran and the Algonquin House, her residence.
A celebration service for Ms. Bowers was held at First Lutheran Church, Friday, December 2, 2011.
