CRAIG, Shirley Scales, Ph.D., departed this life November 1, 2020. She was the oldest of seven children born to the late James Sidney and Ida Virginia Wood Scales. She attended Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Armstrong High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia State College and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Subsequently, while working, she earned her master's and Ph.D. degrees in anatomy from Virginia Commonwealth University. She then joined the faculty and taught anatomy at the VCU Medical College of Virginia, from which she retired in 1996. She was also a faithful member of Fourth Baptist Church for many years.
