He retired from Lucas Industries, Inc., in 1995 as a warehouse supervisor. Bud was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family and his church were the most important part of his life. He loved gardening, hiking and playing golf.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 49 years, Edith Stamey Thornburg; four wonderful sons, Randy and special friend, Donna, Chris and wife, Katrina, Brent and wife, Trina and Eric and wife, Lori; seven grandchildren, Ashley and husband, Gene, Joshua, Jacob, Lauren, Amber, Kylie and Shane; and one great grandchild, McKenzie, three sisters and one brother Delores T. Dorsett, Maryann T. Nichols and husband Nick, Gary Thornburg and wife Betty, and Sylvia Thornburg.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Thornburg was held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Thrift Baptist Church. Burial followed at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Reverends Gene Lathan and Ray Pennell officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thrift Baptist Church Youth Fund, 8415 Moore's Chapel Road, Charlotte, NC 28214, Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 7400 Mt. Holly Road, Charlotte, NC 28214, or Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
