PORTAGE – James M. Stafford, age 84, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital.

James was born on October 21, 1936 in Milwaukee, the son of Jack and Grace (Esidor) Stafford. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He had owned and operated the Landmark Inn with his first wife, Imy, who preceded him in death. James married Carole (nee Behnke) on September 2, 2000 and recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary.

James worked for the Penda Corporation for many years. He also enjoyed traveling, playing Dominoes with friends on Sunday afternoons and watching his favorite western, Gunsmoke.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; step-daughters, Heidi Nahnsen (Portage), Kimberly Srader (Richmond, VA), Diane Bortz (Portage); step-son, David Shortreed (Reedsburg) and their families; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Imy, and three brothers, Clifford, Wilcy, and Robert.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Silver Lake Cemetery.
