Virginia Mary Wood, age 100 of Greenville, died Monday evening, November 2, 2020 at Green Acres Retirement Living. She was born December 8, 1919 in Greenville, the daughter of Ralph and Dora (Van Oss) Walker. On May 30, 1940, she married Bernard E. “Barney” Wood at St. Charles Catholic Church. A lifelong Greenville resident and member of St. Charles, Virginia was also a member of the Thalia Club. Barney preceded her death on November 1, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her son, James Wood; granddaughter-in-law, Dana Wood; sister-in-law, Marcia Walker; and brothers, Charles Walker and Arthur Walker. She is survived by her sons and wives; Ralph and Cecily of Ellicott City Maryland and Richard and Shirley of Mason; daughter-in-law, Gretchen Wood of Greenville; grandchildren; Abigail and Michael Pascual, Joshua Wood, Deborah McCloud, Brian and Lisa Wood, Jennifer Wood, Colonel Michelle Wood, Paula and Todd Finison and Virginia and Robert Buckley; great-grandchildren, Linda, Christian, Megan (Andrew), Jordan (Kara), Tayler, Erynne, Riley, Jayden, Harrison, Eric, Kevin, Jacob, Tyler, Nathaniel, Chloe and Carly; great-great-grandchildren, Ella and Emerson; brother, Lloyd Walker of Greenville; and sisters-in-law, Sadie Walker of Greenville and Faye Walker of Sturgis. The Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday, November 5, 2020 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Rev. James Wyse officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home, and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at church prior to Mass. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church or the Greenville Lions Club.
