Robin Benson Callahan, 59, passed away August 30, 2017, at her home in Concord. She was born November 30, 1957 in Rowan County to the late Vernon and Rachael Benson. Robin was educated in the Rowan County Schools, graduated from East Rowan High School and Catawba College earning a degree in Elementary Education. Later, she taught kindergarten and first grade in the Rowan-Salisbury School System. Those left to cherish her memories include son, Denver Adair Callahan of Wilmington; daughter, Caylan Callahan Yeatts (Ryan) of Charlotte; brother, Randy Benson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Bonnie Shaw (Bill); uncle, Jim Lyerly (Bettie); special friend, Kent Rabon, all of Salisbury; nephew, Chandler Shaw (Mary Buford) and their children, Gil, Adair, and Chandler of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; niece, Haley Shaw Wishon (Jarrett) and their son, Nash of Spring Lake; brother-in-law, James Callahan, and his son, Ben of Mount Airy; and a host of cousins and friends. In addition fo Robin's family, her uncle Thomas Joe Lyerly survived her until March 2018. Robin enjoyed working with children, loved to travel, was out-going, never met a stranger, and was known for playing jokes on family and friends. She enjoyed attending Catawba College football games and tailgating with former college roommates and friends. Robin and her children also loved spending time with their golden retrievers, Kobie and Hadley. Arrangements: A celebration of life was held at Catawba College Cloninger House where family and friends gathered to pay their respects. This is an organization that trains golden retrievers to assist the visually impaired and Veterans, offering them independence and freedom and restoring confidence and dignity.
