Rev George Pitkin was the son of Stephen and Amy Pitkin. He was married first to Annie Eliza VanBenthuysen and second to Sophrone Agard. He was the 8th child born in VT and moved to Schroon Lake, Essex Co, NY. From there to Occoquan Va in 1858. He was a preacher of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He owned over 295 acres and the church was built on this property with the cemetery behind it.
