Dorothy Jean Wilde Payne, 81, of Marshall, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Dorothy was born May 3, 1939 in Madison County to her late parents, Posey and Gertie Rice Wilde. She was a graduate from Marshall High School, worked for Champion in Weaverville until they closed, then retired from the school system when she was 65 years old. Dorothy was a very hard worker who loved to take care of people, making sure they were fed, whether they were hungry or not. She was a member of Shoal Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Payne, Sr., and brothers, Junior, Boyd, Raymond, Doren and Weldon Wilde.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Ted Payne, Jr. (Pam Clark); sisters-in-law, Irene Ball and Agnes Wilde; brother-in-law, Ed Payne; special friend, Dolly Payne; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 12:00 pm in the Kirk Payne Cemetery with Pastor Brian Roberts officiating. Pallbearers will be: Boyd Buckner, Danny Rice, Terry Sitton, Michael Wilde, DeWayne Wilde and Rex Worley.
