OBIT: Kerry Stephen Green, age 70, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born February 27, 1950, in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Bobbie and Joyce (Wilkinson) Green. Kerry was a 1968 graduate of Yorkville High School in Yorkville, Illinois and attended Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois, where he received his associates degree in auto repair and was the owner/operator of Green’s Service Center in Yorkville, Illinois. Kerry was in the community theatre for the Fox Country Players in Yorkville, Illinois. He was community oriented and on the planning commission in Yorkville. He drove the ambulance and was a firefighter for Bristol-Kendall Fire Department in Yorkville and retired after 37 years. He was also involved in the Yorkville Congregational Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a deacon and sang in the choir and the men’s group. He was a dedicated member, deacon, elder, and chairman of the board and various committees of the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. He was the founder of the Rebels Bluff Troupe in Mt. Vernon. He acted, directed and was the president of the board for years. He was involved with Apple Butter making days courtesy vehicles, neighbors helping neighbors Thanksgiving dinners and the Not So Square community players. His hobbies included, Nascar, turkey hunting, turkey calling, and grilling and smoking foods for friends and neighbors. He even had the neighbor’s kids asking him to grill for their birthdays and special occasions. He made friends wherever he went, never met a stranger, and had a gift to gab. On October 17, 1998, he married Cindy Edwards, in Yorkville, Illinois. Kerry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cindy; two sons, Chad (Amber) Green of Yorkville, Illinois and Jeff (Kira) Green of Sandwich, Illinois; one daughter, Erin (Dave) Vana, of Sandwich; seven grandchildren, Jayden, Evan, Nolan, Shayla, Teaghan, Aubrey and Delilah; one sister, Alicia (Todd) Engleman of Sheridan, Illinois and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kerry was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie and Joyce, and one sister, Claudia Heubel. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the First Christian Church in Mt. Vernon with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made payable to the First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home. Due to Covid 19, the family has requested for those attending the services to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
