John Robert Walker was born on February 23, 1945 at Vinita, Oklahoma to Richard Clarence Walker and Berdell Ruth Penrod Walker. He passed away on November 1, 2020 at his home in Tom Bean surrounded by his family.

John proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his service he attended college and received his Associates Degree. He then went on to a long career of over 30 years as a Switchman with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He married the love of his life Barbara Louise Walker on September 18, 1978 at Greenville, Texas. Together they raised their family. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

John is survived by his daughters, Roberta Wiggs of Tom Bean and Debra Akers of Sherman; son, Ricky Wiggs of Tom Bean; 11 grandchildren, Christine, Brad, Robert, Brennon, Kyler, Bailey, Ariel, Jaden, Scarlett, Taylor, Danika; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Parker; sister, Patti Hanni; brothers, Delbert and Emmett Bowers; sister-in-law, Pat Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; daughter, Lori Montgomery; son, John Robert “Robbie” Walker, Jr.; and numerous other brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held 1PM Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, Whitewright, Texas. Pastor Stan McNutt will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ricky Wiggs, Robert Wiggs, Kyler Jay, Bailey Jay, Brad Montgomery and Brennon Montgomery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Landon Yowell, Carter Owens, and Kenneth Owens. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6-8PM Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at the funeral home.
