Leslie Johansen Richards passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Thursday, April 24, 2014 surrounded by her loving family after a sudden and brief illness. Leslie was born in Cambridge, MA. on October 27, 1948. She was the oldest of 7 children and daughter of the late Edith Shine Friel and the late Edmund Friel.

Leslie graduated from Arlington High School in 1966 and Aquinas College in 1968. During her working career she was an Executive Assistant at Harvard Medical School for the Director of Psychiatry and previously for the Director of Nursing at McLean Hospital. More recently she was an Administrative Assistant for Elliot Rehabilitation Health System in Goffstown, NH., before her retirement in 2013.

Leslie is survived by her husband, Jim who recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2014. She is also survived by children: Amy Johansen McHugh, her husband Michael and grandchildren Jake and Molly of Dedham, MA, Carolyn Johansen Holmes, her husband Jim and grandchildren Jimmy, Danny, Allyson, and Jessica of Tewksbury, MA., and David Johansen of Chelmsford, MA., Stepdaughter Jenny Fridge, her husband Eric and grandchildren Megan, Ben, Maddie and Mei-Lynn of Houston, TX.

Leslie is also survived by siblings: Stephen Friel, and his wife Judi of East Longmeadow, MA., Edmund Friel Jr. of Ayer, MA., George Friel of Arlington, MA., Michael Friel , and his wife Susanne of Bedford, MA., Louise Allwein, and her husband John of Westford, MA., and the late David Friel, along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial “Celebration” of Leslie’s life on Friday May 2, 2014 at the Princeton Station Restaurant on 147 Princeton St. No. Chelmsford, MA. 01863. Doors will open at 9:30 am with the service starting at 10:00 am. Lunch will be served following the service.
