Toney “Sarge” Buck was born August 15, 1941 to Roley and Freeda Buck. Toney passed away October 31, 2020.

Toney went to Wetumka School. He lied about his age in order to join the National Guard. He turned 14 at Ft. Hood, Texas. He came back to Wetumka and went to 11th grade. He then went to Haskell Institute and graduated. Toney attended Bacone College a few semesters. He served in the United States Air Force for two years. Toney married Ella Gibson in 1970. He worked for the Chickasaw Nation in Ada until 1982 and moved to Sherman, Tx. He was saved at Grace Indian at Calera in 1983. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School director and Evangelism Director.

He later moved back to Ada at Chickasaw Nation. He became a Deacon at Faith Baptist in 1995. In 1996 they were trained as church planters by the Home Mission Board. They started Bible studies with the Sac and Fox at Stroud, Oklahoma. Toney was not a preacher so he asked different preachers to preach and sometimes baptize. Some are here today. The Stroud Mission became Gloryland Baptist in May 1999. They left when a pastor was called and on the field.

They came back to Faith Baptist in Ada. Faith Baptist asked Toney to be their pastor and ordained him in 2001. The church had a ministry with the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program with the Chickasaw Nation. Many of the clients were saved and attended the church. Toney resigned as pastor January 16, 2016. They joined the First Baptist Church of Wetumka. He taught Sunday School. He had EZ Mart friends, deer hunters and Class of ‘59 classmate friends. He knew no strangers.

Toney filled the pulpit at several churches: Belvin Baptist, Cedar, Pine Grove, Thessalonian, Bethel. He was currently at New Hope at Keota, OK. He was also at McAlester First Indian.

Toney’s motto: God First, Move Forward, No retreat, No regrets.

Toney is preceded in death by his parents, Roley and Freeda Buck; by his brothers, Alex Buck, William Buck, and Daniel Buck; by sisters, Evelyn Bucktrot and Helen Wetselline.

Toney is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ella Buck, by his daughter, Tanya Mrini; by his grandchildren Mehdi and Zahra Mrini; and by his sister, Esther Gee.

Funeral services for Toney Buck will be held Friday, November 6 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Wetumka. Interment will follow at Salt Creek Indian Baptist Church, under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home.
