Born in Thicket, Texas on January 15, 1937. Her parents were James Northrop McLean and Joyce Hooks. She had one older brother, Jim McLean. Ruth graduated in 1955 from Saratoga high school in the piney woods of east Texas. She was Valedictorian of her class and also played on the basketball team. Ruth attended Sam Houston State Teachers College and was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi sorority and participated in various other organizations. She graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and a minor in music. She moved to Houston and worked in Accounting department for an oil company for one year. Then she decided to go back to school at Sam Houston to pursue a teaching certificate. Afterwards, she taught elementary education in the Houston area until she got married. She focused on being a stay at home mom for many years. Later in life, Ruth and her husband created an International trading company called RUDON and sold Korean garden tools and other products across the US for about 10 years until they sold the business and focused on retirement life.
Ruth married John Donald Croslin in June 1962 an they were married over 56 years. They had two children, John Alan Croslin (born in 1965) and Sharon Diane Croslin (born in 1975).
Ruth was an active member of her church at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth and volunteered in various roles in hospitality, treasurer of her bible study class, greeter and other areas.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, history, playing the piano, shopping, and fishing with her husband at their lake-house in southeast Texas.
Ruth is survived by her son, John Alan Croslin, daughter Sharon Broughton and husband Mike Broughton, and two grandchildren, Brady and Jake Broughton.
She died on November 2, 2020 at Life Care hospital in Plano, Texas. She was 83 years old.
A funeral service will be held at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020. A committal service will be held at Pitman Cemetery in Muldoon, Texas at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2020.
