She was born on October 6, 1919, near the Babylon Bend east of Avon, the daughter of Lynn and Cora (Norris) Beer. She married Earl R. Howard on June 12, 1948, in Avon. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are two sons, John (and Nadine) Howard of Fishers, Indiana and Jim (and Mary) Howard of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Adam (and Toni) Howard of Moline and Elise (and Scott) Rasso of Abingdon; and two great-grandchildren, Rafael Rasso and Dominique Rasso.
She grew up in the Avon area and graduated from Avon High School in 1936 and from Western Illinois State Teachers College in 1946. She lived most of her married life in Abingdon. She taught in one-room schoolhouses and later taught Business Education at the Abingdon High School from 1947 until 1979. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary in Abingdon and a member of the Rebecca Parke Chapter DAR in Galesburg. Her hobbies included baking, reading, knitting, and studying history.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Avon Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Scott Carnes will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
