BOISE, Idaho — Shelly Avis Walker, 78, died Sept. 6, 2019, at her home in Boise, Idaho. A memorial service will be at Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho, on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, and at a later date, ashes will be placed in the columbarium at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in McCook, Neb.
Born Shelly Avis Simmons on Aug. 19, 1941, in Detroit, Mich., to Shirley and Stanley Simmons, Shelly spent her early years with her sisters, Sybil and Sandie, on Cass Lake, Mich. She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., and had a successful career as a registered nurse for more than 30 years that concluded with many years as O.R. supervisor at McCook Community Hospital in McCook. She married Dr. Emanuel Charles Beyer on Aug. 25, 1962. They raised two daughters and two sons prior to divorcing in 1996. She married Steven Frederic Walker on March 20, 2004. She retired from nursing in 2011 and moved to Boise, Idaho.
In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, golfing, sailing and volunteering through the Assistance League of Boise. Family and friends recognized her as one of the most open, warm, and welcoming spirits they had ever encountered.
She is survived by her husband, Steven; sister, Sandie; sons, Brian and Jon; daughters, Jill, Faith and Jennifer; daughters-in-law, Alison and Shelley, son-in-law, Matthew; and seven grandchildren: Caitlin, Cleo, Zane, Nicholas, Kareem, Jr., Oskar, and Kimora.
