Mr. Joshua Allen McConnell, 42, of Chicago, ILL, died at 11:57 AM, Friday, October 23, 2020 at a friend’s residence. Mr. McConnell was born in Altoona, Pa on August 23, 1978, son of Marcella A. (Muri) Fickes. He was employed as an Executive Chef at various restaurants in Chicago, ILL for 20 years.

Joshua was a high school graduate and had attended Altoona Area High School. He enjoyed hiking, was a cross country runner, was an avid sports fan, especially New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Bears Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and Penn State, he loved animals, nature and St. Francis was his patron saint.

He is survived by his mother Marcella A. Fickes, of Altoona, Pa; father Richard F. Fickes who raised Joshua of Altoona, Elsa Olsson beloved friend of Chicago and son Nathaniel M. “Nate” Brown of Altoona, Pa; sons Seth R. McConnell, and Gabriel McConnell both of Morehead City, NC; and a daughter Morgan Betz, of Altoona, Pa; grandson Rylan Brown, of Altoona, Pa; and a sister Aubree Lee Jones, of State College, Pa. Joshua is also survived by several nieces, and nephews and aunts and uncles and grandmother Marianne Banholzer.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepard Catholic Church, State College, Pa with Father Charles M. Amershek Celebrant at the convenience of the family. There will no public visitation due to COVID-19 restrictions. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, Pa.
