Norbertine Dies Of Heart Attack

Father Rentmeester Found Dead Monday; Was Teacher Here


The Rev. Charles Rentmeester, O. Praem, 39, a member of the Norbertine Order and a faculty member of St. Norbert College, was found dead in bed Monday evening at the Norbertine Abbey in De Pere. He was the victim of a heart attack.

A native of Preble and the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Rentmeester, he was born Oct. 9, 1915. He entered the Norbertine Order at De Pere in the summer of 1936 and was ordained in Green Bay in June, 1942.

In his 12 years as a Norbertine priest, he served on the faculties of Southeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, Central Catholic High School here, St. Norbert High School and St. Norbert College.

From 1947 until this fall, Father Rentmeester was registrar and instructor at Central Catholic. In September he was assigned to the college's department of education and was director of the schools teacher placement bureau.

The body is at the Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, where friends may call after 4 o'clock Tuesday. At that time, the Norbertine Fathers will recite the Office of the Dead in St. Joseph Church. Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, the remains will be removed to St. Joseph Church to lie in state until funeral ceremonies on Thursday morning.

Thursday at 9:30, Norbertine priests again will recite the Office of the Dead. A pontifical requiem mass will be offered at 10 o'clock.

Father Rentmeester is survived by his parents and four sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Elmer Delfosse and Hubert, Green Bay; Mrs. Leo O'Leary and Raymond, Denmark; Mrs. Arthur Weidner, Sturgeon Bay; Maj. Lester Rentmeester, Falls Church, Va.; Sister Andrea Marie, Denver, Colo., and Kenneth, Chicago.

DE PERE, Wis. (AP) – The Rev. Charles Rentmeester, 39, a member of the Norbertine Order and a faculty member of St. Norbert College, was found dead in his bed Monday night. It was believed he suffered a heart attack.

Rev. Rentmeester was a native of Preble, a Green Bay suburb. He entered the order in 1936 and was ordained in 1942 at Green Bay.

He was an instructor at Central Catholic High School in Green Bay, St. Norbert High School in De Pere, as well as at the college, and at Southeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
