James Maurice “Jim” Ott, 79, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Center for Hospice Care of Elkhart. He was born in Port Washington, OH to the late Edwin and Lela (McPherson) Ott.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Susan Ott; daughter, Cathy Ott Cassady; grandchildren, Zach Cassady, Alexander Shelley, Paris Shelley, and Catherine Shelley; five great grandchildren; brother, John (Gloria) Ott; sister in laws, Ruthie Ott and Nancy Ott; brother in law, Wayne Slater; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene Ott and Ray Ott; and sisters, Martha Slater (FAG -115159363) and Marge (Jerry) MCune.

Jim proudly served in the United States Army for three years. Jim worked as an over the road truck driver for over 40 years. He married the love of his life, Susan Filicicchia, on October 31, 1986, the same day as mother’s birthday. October 31st became very special as three major events of Jim’s life shared that one day. He enjoyed playing card games, especially Euchre and poker, anything to do with cars or history, and donated his time and talents to the rescue and fostering of greyhounds through the local rescue, Greyhound Companions. Overall, Jim was an easy going, down to earth, and kind man who loved his family and friends and will be missed greatly by them all.

A visitation will take place from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart with a service to follow at noon officiated by Jeremy Sarber.
