Ferdinand O. Hetfield, whose death was announced in our last issue, was born in New York City 48 years ago last April. When three years of age his parents moved to Detroit and twelve years later he came with his parents to Minden where the remaining 33 years of his life was spent. When but a young man he entered the business world in partnership with his father in a general store and after the death of his father he continued the business in his own name until about eight years ago. He held the position of postmaster here for the four years preceding June, 1901, and eighteen years ago was elected to the office of village clerk, which place he continued to hold until his death. F. O. Hetfield and Lavina Jones were united in marriage 27 years ago. The result of this union was eight children, six of whom, Raymond, Oscar, Edward, Mary, Warren and Helen, together with the wife, his mother (84 years of age) and one sister, Mrs. G. Rigg of Detroit, survive him.
