August immigrated to America in 1848. On 05 Oct 1849, he married Henrietta Walkenhorst. Together they were the parents of 9 children-Heinrich, Ludwig, Christina, Maria, Carolina, Wilhelm, Louisa, Catherina, and Heinrich.

Following provided by David E. Bruns, great-great-grandson. "His daughter Maria Meyer was born in 1855 and died in 1940 in Sweet Springs. She was married to Louis Bruns (son of Heinrich David Bruns) who was born in Concordia in 1846 and died in Sweet Springs in 1930. They are buried in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Sweet Springs. They were my great-grandparents." (Posted to bio by Jane Oerding at request of David Bruns).
