Lunsford (Lump) Richardson, Jr. of Greensboro, NC died August 24, 2016 at Well Spring Retirement Community after a brief illness.

He was born April 22, 1924 in Greensboro, N.C. He was the son of Lunsford Richardson and Margaret Blakeney Richardson, and the grandson of Lunsford Richardson, inventor of Vicks VapoRub and founder of Vick Chemical Company, which later became Richardson-Vicks, Inc..

Lump attended The Hotchkiss School and Davidson College and graduated from Lehigh University in 1946.
Lump held various management positions with Richardson-Vicks Inc., including Treasurer, and was a Director of RVI for many years until it was sold to Procter and Gamble in 1985.
He was a Director of Richardson Corporation from 1949 - 2014, and Chairman from 1985 – 2001, as well as Director and Chairman of Richardson Properties LLC. In addition, Lump was a Director of Piedmont Trust Company and its predecessors from 1953 -2014, and Chairman from 1985-2001.

Lump had an immensely generous spirit. His philanthropic interests included the Hillsdale Fund Inc., of which he was president from its inception in 1963, and the Smith Richardson Foundation, which he trusteed for over 25 years.
Always active in his community, Lump was a Trustee of the Norwalk (CT) Hospital, Norwalk YMCA, Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, and the Norwalk Human Services Council.

Lump divided his time between Rowayton, CT and Greensboro, NC, with family vacations in Nantucket, MA.
He was a true southern gentleman, known for his bowties and crushing handshake.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Beatrix (Bea) Wisschusen Richardson. He is survived by children Beatrix (Robin) Richardson Dufournier, Barbara (Bobbie) Richardson Evans, and James (Jim) Lunsford Richardson and 8 grandchildren. He is survived by sisters Molly Richardson Smith, Margaret Richardson White, and Eudora (Dora) Laurinda Richardson, and predeceased by his sister Bess Richardson Boney.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, August 29, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
