Obituary

Matthew Jacob McClain, 31, of Greenwood, passed away on October 11, 2020. Born on November 14, 1988 in Beech Grove, Indiana to Michael Jay McClain and Nina Marie Greco. Matthew was the youngest of three, he had two sisters that loved him dearly, Shelby McClain and Casey Allen. He loved to spend time with his beautiful nieces, Laila Bryant and Adelynn Reber. He was such a great uncle to those girls, and enjoyed every minute he had with them. He was always the first to play with the girls at family gatherings, when everyone else just wanted to sit down and socialize, you would always find Matthew making memories with Laila and Adelynn. They enjoyed doing puzzles together and loved going Trick or Treating with him every Halloween. Matthew pursued his GED from Greenwood High in 2005. Matthew had many friends that would all agree that he had a heart of gold. He was someone that could hold a conversation with anybody, and was always so engaging when he spoke with you. He was such a genuine person that would do anything for anyone.

When his mother, Nina, was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure, Matthew was the one who was by her side to care for her. Matthew and his mother enjoyed cooking together making old and new recipes, then trying to improve on them. Matthew and his mother were so close during her final years, and he took such great care of her. Matthew felt his purpose in life was to care for his mother, and he was so humble and selfless in doing so. After Nina passed on December 17, 2018, Matthew lost not only his mother, but his best friend. Matthew struggled deeply with the loss of his mother and although he tried for some time, he was lost without her to care for. Matthew became depressed and frequently turned to alcohol to help cope with the pain, loneliness, and loss he felt. His health began to deteriorate recently, but he kept most of the signs hidden and was not open to help until it was tragically too late. Sadly Matthew was quite ill, his body was weak, his heart was broken and the damage done by the alcohol use was too extensive to heal. Matthew was unable to recover in his condition, and slipped away from us far too soon. We know that Christ welcomed him into paradise, wiping away all the pain and suffering of this world. We will miss you dearly sweet Matthew, but you will be with each of us, always, until we join you in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew will always be a part of us and is survived by his father, Michael, his two sisters, Shelby McClain, her fiance, Cory Reber, and Casey Allen, and her husband, Cary, as well as his beautiful nieces, Laila Bryant and Adelynn Reber. Additionally his grandmothers, Carolyn McClain, Sherry Sesslar, and Linda Greco. He is preceded in death by his mother and best friend, Nina Marie McClain, his grandfathers, Jay McClain, Arthur Greco, and Richard Sesslar, his uncle, Lance Greco, and his dog, Cosmo.

The family will be having a celebration of life for Matthew on November 14th, 2020 at Rest and Restore Ministry. The celebration will be outside from the hours of 3-5pm. The address is 3750 East 600 North, Whiteland, Indiana 46184. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Rest and Restore Ministry: restandrestore.org
