Gary attended school in Barry, IL and in earlier years worked as a mechanic for Zimmerman Brothers. He later joined the Laborer’s Union where he retired from in 2003 also flipped many houses. Gary enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, and playing with his grandchildren. He was lovable and would do anything for anyone. Gary was a devoted husband and father and backbone of the family, and he will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Guthrie; sons, Gary (Jami) Guthrie, Jr. of Pittsfield, IL and Brian (Pam) Guthrie of Roodhouse, IL; daughter, Tina (Robert) Edwards of Detroit, IL; seven grandchildren, Robbie Edwards, Justin (Caitlyn) Edwards, Dustin (Kirsten) Guthrie, Ciara (Ian) Davis, Cody Guthrie, Cordale Guthrie, and Maggie Guthrie; four great grandchildren, Sophie Edwards, Addisen Edwards, Landin Davis, and Ryker Davis; sisters, Julia Forshey of Barry, IL, Hazel (Joe) Sigler of Quincy, IL, Linda Kay Harding of New London, MO; mother-in-law, Pauline Guthrie who was like a mother to him; sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Aileen Guthrie; grandchildren, Cory Reel, Cody Reel, and Michael Guthrie; brother, Edward ‘Jr.’ Guthrie; and sister, Helen Hanlin.
