Daniel P. Schrader, 82, son of Elizabeth Stock Schrader and Otto Schrader, 278 East Tenth Street, Oswego, New York passed on April 23, 2018 surrounded by his closest loved ones. He graduated from Oswego High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the air craft carrier, U.S.S. Ranger CVA -61, which he helped put into commission. After serving in the Navy he worked for twelve years at Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. where he attained the title of staff manager. He then went to work for Local 73 as a Pipe Fitter until his retirement.

Dan loved sports, especially softball, where he was a member of the Oswego Softball Hall of Fame. He also was an avid golfer and a member of the Oswego Country Club for many years. His most notable accomplishment was the year he had three holes in one. He also was a member of the Oswego Elks, and past member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and Knights of Columbus. He was a life-long member of St. Peter's Church where he was a council member and long-time usher. He always enjoyed a competitive game of cribbage and later in life the Yahtzee and Farkle tournaments filled his time. He was an avid follower of politics and sports, loving his Yankees of course.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, two sisters Verna (Schrader) Lass and Mary (Schrader) Sagneri of Rochester, and eight brothers, Norbert (Bud), William, Joseph, Patrick, Edward, Francis, Thomas, and Robert Schrader.
He is survived by two sisters, Agnes (Schrader) Neumann of Delmar, and Ann (Schrader) Hewitt of Cleveland, one brother, John Schrader, of Oswego, and many nieces and nephews. Until the very end, Dan had the loving companionship and care of long-term, soulmate, Deborah Cloonan. Dan did not have biological children of his own but throughout the years he was confidant and mentor to all of his nieces and nephews. His niece Melissa Schrader and her boys Tyler and Kyle Perez were daughter and sons to him throughout life. Deborah's family became Dan's family including children Sean and Michael Cloonan and four grandchildren from Deborah's son's that referred to him as Grandpa Danny and lit up his life until the very end.

Callings hours will be at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street, Oswego, from 4-7pm Wednesday, April 25th, 2018. Funeral will be at St. Peter's Church, 83 East Albany St, Oswego, at 11am on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 220 E 42nd St Rm 435, New York, NY 10017.
