Betty met her future husband, Carl Nelson, while he was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey. She moved to and married him in his hometown, Bristol, Vt. They raised three children, Peter, Neil and Carlene in Bristol. She was an active member of the Bristol Federated Methodist Church since her move to Vermont: She was always involved in the Sunday school, as a teacher and superintendent, and most church activities. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society and a longtime member of the church choir.
Betty was also a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star. She loved the social interaction both locally and during her time as a state officer. Her enthusiasm radiated from her bright blue eyes. She worked in Middlebury for a time then joined her husband in the family monument business in Bristol until her retirement.
She is survived by her children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
