Steven Ray Wood, 65, of Greensburg, Indiana, passed into the presence of the Lord on October 29, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Steve was born to Reeder Lee Wood and Dorothy (Varble) Wood on April 8, 1955, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He graduated from Troy High School in Troy, Ohio; Judson College, Elgin, Illinois; and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, also in Illinois. He married Cheryl Lynn Dobbins on December 18, 1976.
Steve worked as a Pastor for many years, serving churches in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, including a Youth Pastorate at First Baptist Church, Greensburg, from 1989 to 1996. During 14 years in Phoenix, Arizona, he served as a Prison Chaplain and then as a Hospice Chaplain. He returned to Greensburg in 2017 to become Associate Pastor of Adult Ministries, until health issues forced him to retire at the end of 2019.
Steve is survived by his wife, Cheryl Wood; daughter, Sonja (Jimmy) McConnell; grandchildren, Silas, Seth and Chloe McConnell; brother, Michael (Cinda) Wood; and nieces Jenny Hawkins and Rebecca (Brannon) Hampton and their children. He was preceded in death by an infant twin sister, Sheila; his parents; and brother, David Wood.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 4 at 2:00, with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating. In compliance with current restrictions and regulations, guests are asked to wear masks when entering and exiting, and social distancing will be observed.
