She was born to Pearl G. and Willie Murphy on April 14, 1936, in Red Brush, southeast of Victoria. She attended Salem and Williamsfield schools. Betty married Richard Bowman on Aug. 23, 1952. They had three children, Bonnie (Delvin) Powell and Mitchell (Kathy) Bowman, both of Dahinda, and Edward (Holly) Bowman of Newton, Iowa. She had seven grandsons, two granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Marge Stevens and Mary Lou Mahar.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 31, 1998; brother-in-law and best friend, Bob Mahar; her grandchild, Michael; two brothers, Walter and Delmar Armstrong; and four sisters; Stella Malone, Jenny Calvert, Cleo Gray and Shirley Howard.
Betty's hobbies were flower gardens and big gardens. She enjoyed embroidering, making quilts, pillow cases, dish towels and many wall hangings. She loved music and loved to see the porch full of family and friends.
She truly loved her children with her whole heart, as did her children loved her. She will be forever missed.
Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, private graveside services will be held at Williamsfield Cemetery on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020. Rev. Teri Shane will officiate.
