Jack E. Cochensparger, 81, of Delphos, died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He was born June 11, 1923, in Lima, the son of the late Dell and Naomi (Simpson) Cochensparger. On August 17, 1945, he married Betty Holmes, who survives in Delphos. Mr. Cochensparger was a rural mail carrier with the Delphos Post Office who retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 268, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035, the National Rural Letter Carrier Association, Trinity United Methodist Church in Delphos, the Walnut Grove Cemetery Board of Trustees and Hope Masonic Lodge 214. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a chief warrant officer. He enjoyed stamp collecting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Crystal) Cochensparger of Delphos, one daughter, Mary Jo (Richard) Behrns of Delphos, and a granddaughter, Emily Liggett of Delphos. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Liggett. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 8 that evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church's Altar Guild Society.
