Steve was born on January 23, 1928, in Winchester, Idaho, to Marguerite and Stephen Grant. At the age of 17, Steve joined the Navy where he served from 1945 to 1964, tending to ship engines. He served during WWII and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was at Pearl Harbor the day WWII ended. The Navy brought him to Oak Harbor, WA, where he met and married Frances and raised their 3 children. After retiring from the Navy, Steve worked at NAS Whidbey as a fireman. After 18 years of service with the fire department, he relocated to Tri-Cities to be closer to his siblings. He spent his retired years with family and going on small excursions with The Rambling Rovers. He loved gardening and always had a display of beautiful flowers and vegetables.
He was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his children, two sons, Michael (Lora) Grant, Dave (Miriam) Grant, and a daughter, Linda LeCompte; seven grandchildren, Charity, Mike II, Roxanne, Ryan, Casey, Sarah and Chase; four great-grandchildren, Eliza, Josey, Wyatt and Mike III.
He also leaves behind his loving sister, Patsy Miller of Tri-Cities; brother, Jerry of Minnesota; numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends and his very special friend and love, Eva Gooldy.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite; father Stephen; brothers Donald, Bill, and Owen; and former wife, Frances.
A service will be held Saturday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Columbia Memorial Funeral Chapel in Pasco. A celebration of his life will follow at The American Legion, 1029 W Sylvester St.
