Jacob J. Berger (J.J.) was born in Rhein-bayern, Germany and died at the home of his son, Christian, near Bourbon, Marshall County. His parents were Michael Berger and Fredericka Matz.

He married Pauline Mary Walmer, daughter of Peter Walmer IV and Anna Lantz 23 Jun 1856 in Elkhart Co, IN.

The Michael Berger family came to America in 1832 when Jacob was two. They located first in Stark Co, OH and then in 1838 moved to German Twp, Marshall Co, IN where he farmed the original family homestead until he had retired by 1900 and moved into Bremen.

After the death of wife Pauline in 1908, he lived with his daughter Pauline Berger Yoder in Elkhart, IN until two weeks before he died when he had been moved to son Christian's home near Bourbon, Marshall County.
