Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Harmony, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 25, 1936 in Springfield, to Louis and Ella Darnaby Harmony. He married Helen L. Homeier on July 25, 1959 and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Faron (Emily) Harmony, James “Jimmy” (Kate Gleason) Harmony and Jarrell “Jay” (Shayna) Harmony; twelve grandchildren; one great-grand son; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Benny D. Harmony; four sisters, Louise Fishwick, Lilly Bain, Lavena Brown and Lela Dykes and three brothers, Henry, Charles and Lewis Harmony.
Ben was a member of Heritage Freewill Baptist Church for over 25 years where he led the music during Sunday services. He was a musician and founded Springfield’s first Rock ‘n Roll band with his brother, Charlie, as the “Harmony Brothers”. They performed in many areas, especially in Girard and Raymond, IL. Ben was a member of Ansar Shrine Temple and the Masonic Carlock Lodge 904 in Mechanicsburg.
Ben graduated from Springfield High School. He was a master upholsterer and along with his wife, Helen, owned Harmony’s Upholstery where they worked for over 50 years together.
Private burial service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
