Roger J. Boender was born July 10, 1932 in Lansing, Illinois. He moved in February, 1949 with his parents to Oskaloosa, Iowa. He entered into rest on November 6, 1954 as a result of injuries suffered when he was caught between a grader and Caterpillar on Evreux Air Base in France.

Roger was an excellent soldier, not only of his country but of his Lord. He was a constant example to all who worked with him. These qualities were quickly recognized by his superiors and as a result he was chosen to attend NCO Academy at Munich, Germany. Upon completion of this school he rejoined his outfit and quickly became the most outstanding equipment operator in the earth moving platoon.

Roger and his wife, Betty Joyce Dahlin of Oskaloosa, IA., together publicly professed their faith in the Lord in October 1950. He was active in the Jr. Men's Society of the church and everywhere he went let his light shine for his Savior.
