Janet Elaine Freeman, 72, was born on July 4, 1948 to Kenneth Leo Freeman & Margaret Lousie (Brashaber) Freeman. Janet passed away on October 26, 2020 after a long battle of recovery from a stroke which she sustained in January of 2020.

Janet was a 1966 graduate of Ellettsville High School where she was well known for her cooking, baking and sewing skills. She went on to become a cook for Ellettsville Elementary. Then later became the head chef in the Hoosier Energy Cafeteria. Janet's cooking, baking & sewing skills were famous at Hoosier Energy, so famous that when she retired in 2011 from Hoosier Energy they created a song especially for her to the turn of " Your A Grand Old Flag". Anyone who knew Janet, knew she was born on the 4th of July. Something that Janet was very proud of. She was very patriotic. Always wearing her favorite colors, red, white & blue.

Janet was a life long member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and sang in the choir for many years. She also spent more than 20 years working in the 4H building at the Monroe Co Fairgrounds Janet hand crafted a Mrs.Clause dress that proudly wore for her role as Mrs. Clause in the yearly Ellettsville Christmas parade. She also ran the antique kitchen at Paden Farm. Janet was also a member of Farm Bureau, The Walk a Lot Club, Job's Daughter's & Eastern Star. Janet's position in Eastern Star was Electa. Which means Mother and love. Two words that describe her perfectly.

Janet leaves behind her daughter Margaret Dawn Goen of Bloomington; son and daughter in law Tom and Joie Goen of Bloomington; grandchildren, Shane Goen, Blake and (Samantha) Goen, Pierceton and (Samuel) Hawkins; three great grandchildren, Aiden Heath Goen, Laramie Grace Goen and Preslee Saylor Hawkins; brother, Gene and (Carolyn) Freeman and several Nieces, Nephews and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth & Margaret Freeman.

Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ray New and Kurt Freeman officiating. The Order of Eastern Star will provide rites at the time of services. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
