In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Roger Stephens and his wife Fleeta, Louis Stephens and John Abbitt Stephens; and his sweet grandson, John "Baby Will" Stephens.
Survivors include his loving and adoring wife of 60 years, June F. Stephens; his daughter, N. Lynne Brumley and husband Lee; his son, Richard L. Stephens and wife Lindy; four grandchildren, Stephanie Hearn and her husband Andrew, Victoria Stephens, Chris Stephens and Caroline Stephens; and one great-grandchild, Emerie Stephens; two step grandchildren Angela and Jonathan and their families; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends who were more like family than just friends.
His family was so very important to him and he loved spending time with them and each moment with them was special. Clyde was an avid Redskins fan and you would find him often in his cap and talking about his "great" team win or lose. His church family was extremely important to him also. He served as a trustee at Jolliff United Methodist Church where he was a long-time member. All who knew him met him at the door where he had a huge hug or handshake waiting for them. We, the family, laugh that he will be the new greeter at the Pearly Gates of Heaven.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 3 PM in Jolliff United Methodist Church by Rev. Waverly "Smitty" Smith. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Friday from 6-8 PM.
