Vernon Ray Isaacs, 89, a longtime resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, died on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at his home. Vernon was born September 9, 1931 in Konawa, Oklahoma, the tenth of thirteen children born to Jesse Isaacs and Ida Bell (Breckeen) Isaacs. He was also the tenth child to follow his parents to heaven. Vernon wasn’t one to sit idle. He loved visiting with friends and family, and telling stories of his adventures. He grew up in the River Bend area of Konawa, where fishing the river and hunting arrowheads were two of his favorite past times. After his service in the Army, he moved to Bakersfield, California. where he met and married Patsy Ruth Evans on September 2, 1955. They were married sixty-one years until Pat’s death on November 28, 2016. Vernon was an amazing singer, song writer, and musician. He loved playing the guitar and singing. While in Bakersfield, he entered and won many competitions - beating some singers that went on to be household names. They moved back home to Konawa to raise their three children in the early 1960s. It is hard to sum up such an interesting life in a few words when there is so much more that could be said. He was survived by two sons, Dennis Isaacs and wife Katie, and Danny Isaacs and wife Debbie, all of Konawa; daughters, Sheila Herndon and Danny Wofford of Kingston, Oklahoma, and Angie Young and husband Robert of Seminole, Oklahoma; a brother, Bill Isaacs and wife Juanda of Konawa; two sisters, Lavada Archer of Glendale, Arizona, and Neva Rodgers of Konawa; nine grandchildren, Brandon Underwood, Brian Underwood, Beau Underwood, Blake Underwood, Trina Lee, Scotty Isaacs, T. Isaacs, Tinley Johnson, and Ian Isaacs; twenty-two great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patsy; four brothers, Orville, Beecher, Raymond, and Doug Isaacs; and threesisters, Wyoma Peiret, Lola Roberts, and Audrey Coursey. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, 31 October, 2020 at the Maxwell Cemetery. Rev. Drew Isaacs and Bill Isaacs officiated. Cremation was under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
