David “Al” Schmitz Sr.

It is with great sadness that the family of David (Al) Schmitz Sr., of Raynham, formerly of Boston, announces his passing on October 15, 2020 at the age of 67. He was the son of the late Loretta Bottari of Roslindale and Albert Schmitz of Allenstown, NH (find a grave #142028758). Loving grandson to his late “Grammie” Iola MacCready of Boston and stepson of the late Kay Schmitz of Scituate.

David was born in Boston and grew up in Mission Hill. After high school, he joined the U S Army and served in Germany. Later, David went on to work a lengthy career in the alarm industry as an alarm technician.

David settled in Brockton where he would raise his family with his wife and friend Alice Giunta. He was the father of David Schmitz Jr, Paul Giunta and his wife Natalia, and “Gramps” to Aliciana who all now reside in Taunton.

A few of David’s favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and maintaining home aquariums. However, his real talents were drawing and painting.

He was the brother of Diane Schmitz of Hyannis, Deborah & Eric Cimeno of Nebraska, Doreen & Carroll Gustafson of New Sweden, ME, Loretta & David Coty of Presque Isle, ME, Theresa & Corrine West of Wareham, Thomas Schmitz of PA, Kimberly & Chris Rowland of Plymouth, David Smith of Marlboro, Jonathan Smith of Hudson and the late Donna Bishop of NC.

Brother in-law to the late Donna Viola of Phoenix AZ, Patricia DesRoches & Matt Carr of Dighton, John & Kathe Giunta of West Bridgewater and late brother in-law Robert DesRoches of Bridgewater. Endearing Uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

Burial Services will be held at the National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA onThursday, November 12 th at 10am.
