Alma Wilson Porterfield, 88, of Elizabethtown Nursing Center, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, in Bladen County Hospital.

Mrs. Porterfield was a native of Person County, but had lived in Orange County most of her life before moving to Elizabethtown. Mrs. Porterfield was a seamstress and a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are four sons, Arlo L. "A.L." Mayes (Betty) of Hillsborough, Chester R. Mayes (Nancy) of Jacksonville, FL, Dwight L. Porterfield (Amber) of Roxboro and J.C. Porterfield (Judy) of White Lake; one daughter, Florence M. Conklin of Hillsborough; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, September 23, 2003, in the Hudson Funeral Home Chapel in Durham.

Officiating will be Rev. Walter Hayes, pastor of White Lake Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the Brassfield Baptist Church cemetery in Creedmoor.

Pallbearers will be Billy Gene Cash, Truitt Thompson, Buddy Carden, Gene Enoch, David Fox and Dale Brennan.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9PM at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brassfield Baptist Church Building Fund, 2072 Highway 96, Creedmoor, NC 27522.
