Mr. Joseph Mingo Sr. “Mr. Joe” was born September 11, 1926, in Bamberg, South Carolina, to the late Ernest and Mattie Sease-Mingo. Mr. Joe departed this life on October 17, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Joseph was educated in the public schools of Ehrhardt/Bamberg, SC. He was a sharecropper all his life but would always be tinkering under the hood of a car or cutting someone’s hair. He retired from sharecropping at the young age of 78. When he was very young, he joined and was baptized at Rizer Chapel United Methodist Church. While attending Rizer Chapel United Methodist Church he dutifully served as a chairman deacon, choir singer, and treasurer. One of his favorite songs to sing in the church was, “I Rose to Tell You What the Good Lord Has Done For Me.”

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Roslin Breland-Mingo on January 22, 1949. During this union, they had 8 children. Three preceded him in death including Jervey Mingo his oldest son. Also preceded in death by one granddaughter Pamela Mingo-Hyman.

Joseph was called home by the Lord in his infinite wisdom after living for almost a century.

He is survived by his wife Roslin Mingo of Ehrhardt, SC. Three daughters; Diane Mingo-Bamberg (Clyde)of Ehrhardt, SC; Modestine Mingo-Dewitte (David) of Irmo, SC; Lorene Mingo of Columbia, SC; a daughter-in-law Shirley Mingo of Bamberg, SC. Four sons; Melvin Mingo (Grace) of Ehrhardt, SC; Joseph Mingo Jr. (Brenda)of Ehrhardt, SC; Jeffrey Mingo of Orangeburg, SC; Marvin Mingo of Bamberg, SC; and one surviving brother James Mingo (Jeri) of Gilbert, SC. Surviving brothers-in-law; Henry Breland, James Breland (Charlotte); sisters-in-law; Joann Mingo, Carrie Lawton, Ruthie Burton (Obra), Helen Wiggins, Daisy Reddish. Also left to cherish his memories are 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a devoted nephew, Gregory Murdock of Ehrhardt, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
