Mary Gunn the daughter of Henry and Mae (DeVore) Ahrens was born November 29, 1923 in Clay County, Nebraska near Edgar. She departed this life on Wednesday October 28, 2020 at her home in Edgar, Nebraska at the age of 96 years.

Mary Anna Gunn the daughter of Henry and Mae (DeVore) Ahrens was born November 29, 1923 in Clay County, Nebraska near Edgar. She departed this life on Wednesday October 28, 2020 at her home in Edgar, Nebraska at the age of 96 years.

As a young girl Mary's home was a farm house in the middle of a section and remembered vividly the long ungraveled road leading up to the house, no modern conviences and telephone with a party line. Mary along with her two sisters Lavena, Doris and her parents went to Edgar on Saturday nights where her parents would trade cream and eggs for groceries.

Mary attended rural country school in Clay County and graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1940. She was united in marriage to Donald P. Gunn on September 15, 1940. Five children were born to this union. Donnie and Mary moved to California in the fall of 1941 for a short while were he worked for the Rail Road and later for Cal-Ship in Long Beach. In 1944 the family moved to St. George, Utah before coming home to Edgar to make their home.

Mary worked for 29 years at Superior Deshler, the Bank for 3 years and in later years she was employed by Bethesda Care Center in Edgar.

Mary had first been a member of the Edgar Methodist Church which later merged with the Presbyterian Church which became the Church of the Plains in Edgar. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association, sang in the choir and taught sunday school. When her children were young she served as both a girl and boy scout leader. In her spare time Mary enjoyed gardening and doing needle work.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, sons: Donald Dean Gunn; Jay P. Gunn; sisters Lavena Beck and Doris Wallace.

Survivors include: daughters Lana Horst and Dixie Osborne both of Edgar, NE; son Jeff Gunn of Nelson, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; other relatives and her many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 1:00 PM November 4, 2020 at the Edgar Cemetery, Edgar, NE. Pastor Ethan Feistner will be officiating. Memorials in lieu of flowers may given to the Church of the Plains, Edgar, NE. A book signing will be on Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 8 pm with the family present to greet callers from 7 pm to 8 pm.
